Welcome to Queerstorical Houston !

This page was started to help me in my personal research regarding the LGBT Community of Houston, TX.

The only published work to cover the Houston community at all is James T. Sears book Rebels, Rubyfruit and Rhinestones.I have been using this book as a sort of jumping off point for what needs to be done. To help put things in perspective, I have been developing a timeline of events.

There are two large facets to my personal research.

The Bars

have played an important part in every gayborhood by serving as a meeting place and community focal point.

The Dogpatch 2 was located at 1213 Richmond

I am using mapbuilder.net to map the locations of all the old bars in Houston as well as other places of interestto the LGBT community of our town. I hope to eventually migrate this

information to the Houston ARCH  page where they are planning on developing message boards to allow anyone to comment and upload pictures.

LXIX began publication in March of 1978

The Publications

The newsletters, periodicals, and "bar rags" that have circulated

throughout Houston at different times are an integral source of

information. I hope to see the start of a project to index the earliest publications

which would make the history of our community more accesible.

Click here to see my list as it stands right now.
